Due to the concern regarding student-athletes and their participation in music and athletics, the following guidelines are aimed at alleviating the concern.
If the student-athlete has a musical concert and the student has a practice:
The student should report to the musical concert
If the student-athlete has a musical concert and the student has a game:
The student should report to the musical concert
If the student-athlete has a musical concert and the student has a Playoff/Championship game:
The student should report to the Playoff/Championship game
The following reasons are considered excused absences for missing a concert:
1. Death in the family
2. Sickness (must be absent from school or have gone home early due to sickness).
3. Prearranged travel plans : Note from parent must be brought in no later than 1 month before the concert.
4. Sports Conflict : Only if game is already scheduled at the time the concert date is announced. Every effort will be made to avoid this type of conflict.
The following reasons are considered Unexcused absences:
1. Work
2. A game that ‘suddenly’ comes up
3. Lack of ride to school. If you can’t get a ride, notify me and I will arrange something for you.
4. Vague reasons like “a family emergency”.
Missing a concert due to an unexcused absence may result in an “Unsatisfactory Progress” on your report card due to a low ‘concert attendance’ portion of you overall grade.
Students who have an excused absence will have to make up their grade by performing one of the concert songs for Mr. Chaump.
